John Cahill has been involved with the defense of architects and and engineers since 1995. He is a 1984 graduate of Baylor University School of Law (BA/Baylor in 1983). In addition to defending claims against A/E professionals, he negotiates contracts on behalf of design professionals. He is a member of the Construction Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and Houston Bar Association and is on the Construction Law Steering Committee for DRI (Defense Research Institute), where he is also the Chair of the Construction Law Section Special Law Groups and the Design Professional SLG. He has spoken at several DRI Construction Law Meetings, the State Bar of Texas Annual Construction Law Meeting and the Victor O. Schinnerer Annual Meeting of Invited Attorneys (2014). His paper, “Privity and the Defense of Design Professionals: An Analysis of the Status of the Lack Privity as a Valid Defense” was submitted to the AIA Trust as a White Paper in 2015.

The Lanza Law Firm is a defense firm, handling a range of cases including A&E defense, construction claims, real estate E&O, other professional liability matters and general defense. With offices in Houston, Austin and San Antonio, the firm provides statewide coverage to clients. Beyond court disputes, the firm handles arbitration and complaints before various state licensing boards, including the Board of Architectural Examiners, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and Real Estate Commission.
