Strong governance begins with leaders who understand both the profession and the responsibility of serving their peers. As Chair of the AIA Trust, Theresa Ridley brings decades of architectural practice, AIA leadership, and a steady, member‑first approach to guiding the Trust forward.

Theresa Ridley steps into the role of Chair with a career shaped by broad professional experience, deep AIA leadership, and a long-standing commitment to service to both the profession and the communities architects serve.

From early exposure to architecture through hands-on exploration to a career spanning complex project types and leadership roles, Theresa’s path reflects a clear understanding of architectural practice and professional responsibility. Her work has included projects across commercial, civic, healthcare, aviation, and community sectors—experiences that have informed her thoughtful, pragmatic approach to leadership.

Theresa’s involvement with the American Institute of Architects spans decades and multiple levels of service. From local chapter leadership to serving as President of AIA Georgia, her work has focused on strengthening member engagement, advancing equity, and supporting the evolving needs of architects. In 2022, she began serving as a Trustee with the AIA Trust, bringing her experience in governance, professional practice, and advocacy to help advance the Trust’s mission and long-term stewardship.

As Chair, Theresa brings a steady, collaborative leadership style grounded in experience and guided by service. She understands the realities architects face—from managing risk and responsibility to navigating opportunity and change—and is committed to ensuring the Trust continues to deliver meaningful value to members and the profession.

Beyond architecture, Theresa and her husband share a passion for photography and travel, often capturing moments that reflect their appreciation for place and experience. She is also an accomplished gardener, specializing in native azaleas and rhododendrons, and has earned numerous ribbons through the American Rhododendron Society’s Azalea Chapter. A lifelong college football fan, she values the sense of community and tradition that sports, creativity, and shared experiences bring.

Theresa looks forward to serving as Chair with a focus on continuity, care, and strengthening the AIA Trust’s role in supporting architects—today and into the future.
